Bormio Reservoir, the technological core of the Olympic races

Among the strategic works supporting the men’s alpine skiing competitions, the new “S. Ambrogio” storage reservoir is a key infrastructure that ensures the water supply for snowmaking on the Stelvio slope, with a storage capacity of approximately 88,000 m³.The project includes the embankment structure with retaining systems, waterproofing and drainage layers, an inspection gallery equipped with regulation and monitoring devices, as well as inlet, outlet, and management pipelines connected to the downstream pumpingstation.

 

A complex intervention set within a sensitive alpine environment from geomorphological, hydrological, and landscape perspectives, requiring design solutions focused on structural stability, water management, and overall system safety.

We carried out the structural design, contributing to the technical solutions that now make this infrastructure an integral part of Bormio’s Olympic system.
